India Digital Health: Health records and Review medication screens in Samsung Health
Medication journey: Scan a prescription, Digitize it, Purchase, Remind, Log and Track

Why Medication, and why India

Samsung Health already offered medication tracking globally, with its UX framework defined by the global team. But it wasn’t built around India’s pharmacy and healthcare ecosystem. The data layer, the UX and the assumptions behind them all came from elsewhere.

Partner data, and what it changed

Samsung partnered with Tata 1mg, a trusted Indian medication database, to provide verified medication information.

I adapted the existing global UX for the partnership: working out which touchpoints had to change to carry partner data, and which new features the integration made possible. I also proposed further enhancements that use the Tata 1mg database for richer medication information. Several are now in the commercial pipeline.

Medication features: 1. Scan to add a medicine from its label, 2. Tailored scheduling with frequency and dosage, 3. Adherence report showing doses taken, skipped and missed, 4. Never go short of medicines by buying refills

Impact

The feature supports 1.6 million monthly active devices, generating 2+ million medication interactions every month.

The Tata 1mg integration is commercialised, and the research-led enhancements are set to release in the next version.

What went back to global

India-specific insights were fed back to the global Samsung Health team, reversing the usual global-to-regional direction.

Personal Health Records

Samsung’s PHR is part of India’s government health-locker programme under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), delivered with Eka Care. Samsung was among the first OEMs to onboard.

I designed the UX, including onboarding and record-management flows, within significant government infrastructure constraints.
